On March 14, 2013 I had the privilege to accompany Mrs. Johnson and her supporters in Newark New Jersey at an 11:00am meeting with the Essex County Prosecutor’s office to discuss the Grand Jury not guilt outcome of the bus driver who ended her only child  Deshon Johnson’s life.
As I exited off the elevator, I noticed a rainbow of photos with the victim’s face, Deshon Johnson on everyone t-shirt. Each image captured this young man character and lovely features that spoke unique volume of who he was.

On the other hand, I noticed two gentlemen standing approximately five steps from the elevator who was conjugating amongst themselves, which appeared to be Ms. Naomi Johnson’s attorneys.  As, I was waiting patiently with the other supporters, I noticed the attorneys did not open their mouth and speak to their client. It seems to have been bizarre to see the lawyers not acknowledge their clients presence or interacting with her during the duration of the waiting process. The attorneys did not either greet Ms. Johnson when she stepped off the elevator nor did they ask for a t-shirt to show moral support of Mr. Deshon Johnson.
I approached Ms. Johnson and asked what were her two lawyer names and why both of themwere at the meeting. She told me one of the gentleman names was Gerald Saluti (CriminalAttorney) and the other gentleman name was Brad Schenerman (Civil Attorney). They were at the meeting because Erica Liu assistant prosecutor suggested for them to be there. Later on after our conversation, Ms. Johnson went to Mr. Schenerman to converse with him about legal matters surrounding her son’s case. Mr. Schenerman behavior seems be bland and distance without any moral interest in their conversation.

As we were still waiting I had the privilege to speak with some of the supporters, one person I enjoyed speaking with was an online newspaper report Dian from The Jersey Tomato Press. She was vocal and opinionated about Ms. Johnson attorneys Saulti Schenerman’s behavior towards their client. Dian introduced herself to Mr. Schenerman and Saluti as Ms. Johnson friend who is a reported. The two men refused to shake Dian’s hand and told her she is not allowed in the meeting. She asked them why notthey said no reports are allowed in the meeting. Dian than said there are no laws that states that she cannot go into a meeting and give her friend support. The two men were unyielding not to allow Dian to attend the meeting for the support of her friend Naomi because the nature of her job. Mr. Saulti immediately contacts the prosecutor office and told them about Dian.

Mrs. Dian was disturbed by the men etiquette and pointed out the two attorney’s none interaction, support, aloof, inhuman, insensitive and corrosive behavior towards their client. Mrs. Dian also took noticed how the two gentlemen were more on the prosecutor side than Ms. Johnson. They acted as if the prosecutor hired them instead of Ms. Johnson. I too, noticed the gentleman callused temperament towards their client.
After waiting in the lobby for one hour a woman from The Victim offices came up to everyone and announced the meeting is ready to beginning. As everyone started to approach the meeting room The Victim Witness office representative told everyone is not allowed to sit in the meeting only Ms. Johnson and her attorneys. Miss Johnson and her supporters were irritated because Erica Liu told her and James Little a friend of the family they can bring anyone with them to the meeting. The Volunteer Witness spokesperson went to get the prosecutors. They all came out around 12:00pm and said that everyone cannot come into the meeting. One of Ms. Johnson supporters by name of Dian asked why everyone is unable to attend the meeting because the room has twenty seats which is enough room for everyone? Mr. Thomas Fennel Chief of Prosecutor and Erica Liu Assistant Prosecutor said no. Everyone was upset when they were not allowed to sit in the meeting.

Renee Burnett (Naomi sister) said everyone is upset because they took off work to give support since Ms. Liu said over the phone to Ms. Johnson and Mr. Little that it was ok to bring moral support(people). Dian said to the prosecutor that there is no laws governed that they all could not sit in the meeting once the case was closed. Than Dian asked where they hiding something or is there is conspiracy with Deshon Johnson’s case? Mr. Fennel and Miss Liu did not respond to Dian’s comment. The prosecutor were giving everyone a hard time about coming into the meeting. Ms. Johnson became extremely emotional and started crying saying to the team of prosecutors you all can hug and kiss your child(children) but I cannot. Why are you all giving me a hard time to find out detail on closing my son’s case? Thereafter, Ms.  Johnson complete right side started to shake as if it was going into a seizure. Ms.Johnson sisters Renee Burnett sat with her sister to try and calm her down so she can go into the meeting. Ms. Johnson right side was still shaking causing her to have difficulties with walking but she stopped crying.  Mrs. Burnett and Gwendolyn Williams held Ms. Johnson up so she would be able to walk into the meeting room. Next thing we all saw Ms.  Johnson collapsed onto the floor.  As Ms. Johnson went down, Mr. Thomas Fennel said, she is putting on a show”. Mr. Thomas Fennel negative disturbing comment made some of the supporters upset. Because Ms. Johnson suffers from a disability as a result of a car accident in 2007 that left her with damage nerves causing the right side to trimmer and go into spasms.

As Ms. Johnson laid hopelessly unconscious on the court lobby benchthe Paramedics came to treat her. While they were trying to get Ms. Johnson to speak she was crying and calling Deshon name relentlessly. The paramedics rushed Ms. Johnson to the hospital after her pulse dropped and heart rate increased. Ms. Johnson was cataleptic for a half hour or more. While all of this commotion was going on Saluti or Schenerman were not by their client side. I was told Mr. Schenerman saw his client trimmer go off in August at the protest and was aware of her disability. Sadly to say, he did not come to her aide and let the prosecutor know it was not a show and that Ms. Johnson wasn’t putting on an act/show.  Once again the two attorneys were with each other instead of giving heartfelt support to their client.
After Mr. Schenerman’s departed with  Mr.Gerald Saluti , Schenerman went to Mathew Gosse pulling him to the side talking to him about the case. I could not believe what I overheard. I heard Mr. Schenerman telling Mathew let’s focus on the civil case. Meanwhile, his client is comatose and he is not by her side. Mr. Schenerman was only focusing on money instead of the welfare of his client. Ms.Johnson was later rushed to the hospital.

After Ms. Johnson was rushed to  hospital,  Fois 1 news reporter and  The Jersey Tomato Press reported, attorneys, some of the Johnson supporters, other undercover reporters and stayed behind talking about the unbelievable behavior of the prosecutor that left Ms. Johnson emotional torn and in distress.

Ms. Johnson only came there to seek answers of the closing verdict on her son Deshon Johnson’s case. Sadly to say, she did not receive any answers but she did receive a hospital bill and more heartache. I could not believe how this mother was being mistreated by the prosecutor office and her attorneys. They treated Ms. Johnson as if she was the person who ended her son’s life.
The question I ask myself is there corruption in the police department and prosecutor office? And Why Erica Liu gave Ms Johnson and Mr. James Little misleading information?

Here is a picture of Naomi and her son Deshon Johnson. It is shame that the mother have to endure all of this pain and stress with the justice system. It is bad enough she have the suffer the pain of  losing her only child. The way the Essex County Prosecutor and Bloomfield police is protecting the bus driver is like he is the victim not Deshon Johnson. This you man life was taken by Coach USA bus driver operating NJ Transit bus 709 Broad and Bay.
