EAST ORANGE — Authorities
have identified the 21-year-old city woman who was struck and killed by
a motor coach bus while crossing the street this morning with her young
son.
The victim, Christie Noble-Ross, was struck by a Coach USA bus at about 7 a.m., near the intersection of Main and South Harrison streets, said the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, which released her name this afternoon.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The child, who is 3, was transported to the hospital but was not hurt, authorities said.
The driver of the bus stopped after the accident, said Katherine Carter, a prosecutor’s office spokeswoman. No charges have been filed at this time, the office said, but the investigation is ongoing.
Coach USA operates scheduled bus routes, motorcoach tours, charters and city sightseeing tours in various states, according to its web site. In New Jersey, the company runs commuter and local bus operations, Newark Airport express shuttles and charter and contract services, the web site said.
No one from the company could be immediately reached for comment.

feeling sorry for the Bus-Driver who obviously "MUST" have had prior
training & experience in the proper operation of such a massive
Vehicle especially during bad Weather conditions, I boldly say to
Individuals that would foolishly support that Idiot, you are most
certainly sending the wrong Message. In this particular instance as I
mentioned earlier "THE YOUNG-LADY INFACT HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY!" This I
would gladly testify in any Court under oath on a Trillion stack of
Bibles. All License-Drivers are fully aware that NO MATTER WHAT, the Law
requires Motorist have a Duty to yield to Pedestrians. No ifs, ands, or
buts. The blame lies solely on the Bus-Opperator. NOT THE-VICTIM, NOT
BAD-WEATHER, NOT ROAD-CONDITIONS, NOT MECHANICAL-FAILURE &
DEFINITELY NOT SATAN EITHER! Unless you were sitting on the Driver's Lap
right before or at the exact moment both Bus & Woman collided, then
in that case you are just as guilty as he is. So kindly quit your
babbling trying pointlessly to soften the Blow. Bottom-Line? The Jury
has reached it's Verdict. The blasted "BUS-DRIVER" is GUILTY. Let the
punishment fit the Crime. Case close!!!
I
would like to extend my condolense to the family, my heart really goes
out to them... this is an unfortunate situation..... everyone please
lets step back and take a breather, i am sure that the driver of the bus
feels horriable ....there are so many stories about what was going on
at the time of the accident.....if you wasn't there then you really
don't know....on monday the weather was terrible...rain, snow and
fog....i have the pleasure of riding the bus all the time.... yes you do
have driver that do things that they are not supposed to do...but
passengers also do the same. ....but that 's no reason to say harsh
things about the driver.....(not right at all).....in the course of the
day a driver deals with a lot of situations , such as passengers
standing in the street to catch a bus when the bus stop is clear ,
they should be standing on the curb....., i see people running across
the street from the opposite side to catch the bus when the light is
green for the cars to go......i see kids running out in the street when
the parents are on the cell phone and not holding there hand.....i see
cars cutting the buses off and people jumping out of the car just to
catch the bus... this is a terrible ordeal ...... we need to be
supportive to the family and the driver....
What
exactly was this Bus-Driver doing at the precise moment of impact?
Their is only one word that comes to mind. "MULTITASKING!" Like I said,
if yo don't want to get me VEX, please don't drive and TEXT. To keep it
from getting IMPACTED, just don't drive DISTRACTED. Tragedies like these
are totally inexcusable. Not only should his Driver's License be
permanently revoked, but he'd certainly do all Pedestrians a huge favor
by putting a Gun to his Head and pull the frigging Trigger! Now a poor
Child will never see Mommy ever again. MECHANICAL-ERA? Please!!! I'm not
buying it. Sympathy for the Victim, YES! Empathy for the Driver,
HELL-NO!!! Jay-Walking we know is Illegal, but seriously, are the
Cross-Walks any safer? Come on now! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. For the Record, I
personally witnessed that entire Calamity the exact Moment it occurred
while riding west-bound on Main street on my Mountain-Bicycle. Not only
was the Unfortunate-Victim utilizing the Side-Walk, but more importantly
"SHE HAD THE GREEN LIGHT" I am appalled to read in the Headlines that
no charges against the Bus-Driver were filed yet especially after
observing him using a cell-phone to call only Heaven knows who as he
paced up and down the front steps of the Coach USA showing absolutely no
respect to the Dead apparently already deceased completely pinned under
the GIGANTIC front passenger-side Wheel. I'm strongly urging the
Investigators to pull those phone-records as was done in the Micheal
Jackson Manslaughter Trial. JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT THE SIDE-WALKS WERE
SAFE, THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENS. May her Soul eternally rest in peace.
This Incident Should Be Investigated
Anyone familiar with this area knows that there is no way in hell when making a left turn off of South Harrison Street on to Main Street that pedestrians can't be seen crossing the street, even if they're jaywalking, because drivers have a large view due to the width and design of that particular intersection. The only way that this mother and child weren't seen is if the Bus Driver was preoccupied or reckless with the speed of the bus in making the turn.
,p>Again, my condolences to the family

I
totally agree!! I'm familliar with this area and with this bus as
well...the bus has to make a wide turn there's no way in hell you
could've missed someone crossing the intersection, especially when you
should've been slowing down anyway to perform the turn and watch out for
oncoming traffic and pedestrian; unless:
A. You're speeding so not to be caught by the red light
B. Simply not paying attention
or C. The pedestrian was jaywalking, and I doubt the latter very much.
I'm so saddened by this. This definitely needs to be investigated thoroughly.
My condolences go out to the family.
