Friends and family of Deshon Johnson plan to hold a protest where he was killed last month.
The family is not satisfied with how authorities are handling the investigation, a friend said.
"Deshon was simply waiting at the bus stop on his way to
work and the bus just didn't stop and drove right past him, coming onto
the curb and killing my brother," said friend James Little in an email.
"We will be protesting the town of Bloomfield
and NJ Transit this Wednesday, August 15, which will be one month since
our brother has walked this earth. The protest will start around 10
a.m. and we will be at the corner that he was killed on, which is the
intersection of Broad Street and Bay [Avenue] in Bloomfield, N.J.
"The mother, family, and close friends will all be in
attendance and we welcome any one else who is willing to show some
support with us. We are not satisfied with how Bloomfield
and NJ Transit both are treating the situation and we demand justice.
If you can make it at 10 a.m. please do, we need all the support we can
get."
Authorities believe Johnson was rushing to catch Bus 709 to get to his job when he was hit July 18, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said at the time. No charges were filed then but the Prosecutor's Office and Bloomfield police were still investigating.
The Essex County College Student was on his way to his job at the home depot.
The NJ Transit bus was operated through Coach USA and NJ
Transit referred questions to that company after the incident.. Coach
representative Steven Van Horn told Bloomfield Life he had no information on the accident. Other calls to Van Horn were not been returned.
