No Safety For Deshon Law Was Passed In Honor of Montclair College Student of Essex County but a Safety: "Nikhil's Law" Passed In Honor of Essex County Youth
September 2, 2015
By Samuel Jones (Soulality Editor)

Montclair- It has been three years that Montclair’s outstanding 22-year-old college student Deshon Johnson was tragically mowed down and killed by a reckless Coach USA Bus Diver Wilson Romaine who was operating NJ Transit bus 709 in Bloomfield NJ Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Johnson’s mother Naomi is still fighting for a law to be passing in her son’s name on a state level as well as federal. Instead of her getting support for her son injustice untimely death caused by no fort of his own from these state, county, town political figures/companies She has been receiving nothing but negative injustice outcome and disrespected treatment from lawmakers, Bloomfield township, Essex County Prosecutor Homicide detective and NJ Transit/ Community Coach USA Bus Company. In addition to, negative racist remarks from some citizens you that you can find on a YouTube video
, News 12 thread feed when her son Deshon ‘s memorial was removed a few second it was put up in Bloomfield NJ, and another online newspaper threads.
This mother told me “she endures a lot of negativity ridicule pressure just trying to fight for justice for her son’s untimely death and a poor investigation from the justices system on her son’s case. I asked Naomi does she have any family support that is helping on her justice fight journey, she told me no with tears run down her cheeks, “She states she is fighting all alone with no family support”. However, she does have fashion designer Tyrone Chablis and other fashion show promoters who includes her in few fashion shows to help her raise awareness about her son tragic death, Maggie who helped her pass out information about her son demise during the July 18th fashion show she put together. She has, Noneillah’s main model/actor Jade who does a photo shoot for the magazine to help spread awareness and NeVaughn Brown from Everyday Girl Magazine who wrote about her son’s story. In retrospect, Naomi said, “She is doing most of the fight every day on her own with limited energy she has struggling to stay alive with the pain missing her son, the images of her son’s remains on the pavement and her disability she sustain from 2007 when Bloomfield NJ police chasing a stolen car.
Yet you have a tragic death of 11-year-old Nikhil Badlani inspires a simple but heartfelt NJ law.
This young man life was taken Saturday, June 11, 2011, with a matter of time a law was passed in honor of the memory of West Orange 11-year-old Nikhil Badlani, New Jersey. The legislators passed a bill on Aug. 4 that is designed to “emphasize to new drivers the importance of following the state’s motor vehicle traffic laws.” There was not racist remarks gear to him or his untimely tragic demise nor has his parents have to face any political hassle in getting a law pass but Deshon’s mother was faced with it all. Is there a double standard in these two young man untimely deaths? Badlani was tragically killed by a reckless driver who ran a stop sign on the South Orange/Maplewood border near South Mountain Reservation. Johnson’s was killed by a reckless bus driver who approached on the curb where victim stood. Romaine killed victim at the curb of the intersection on Broad Street then continue on operating the bus dragging Johnson 50 to 100 feet to his demise on Bay Street. Romaine failed to stop the bus to pick up the pedestrian/rider Johnson up while waiting at the bus stop,
Badlani – an exemplary student and aspiring musician. Deshon – an exemplary high school honor student, college student, wonderful loyal son of Naomi, young entrepreneur of Noneillah, and an aspiring musician.
Here you have two young positive young men that were productive citizens gone too soon by an untimely tragic death in the hands of other human beings. Yet, you have two same but different tragic deaths and two different treatments. One death has its justice (Badlani) with a law pass in the victim name but the other one is an injustice (Johnson) with no law honoring in his name, the bus driver walks away a free man, never was taken into custody nor were any bail set for killing Johnson.
The dubbed “Nikhil’s Laws” is under the new legislation – that will require the MVC commissioner, in consultation with the Nikhil Badlani Foundation, to include in the MVC driver’s manual information explaining the dangers of failing to follow the state’s motor vehicle traffic laws.
This information must provide interested drivers with instructions on how to take the “STOP for Nikhil” pledge. [See below]
NIKHIL’S PLEDGE
“In order to ensure the safety of others on the road, passengers in my car, and I as a driver, I pledge to obey traffic laws while operating a motor vehicle, be extra cautious, and be attentive to traffic signs and signals and road conditions.”
“I will come to a complete stop at every ‘stop’ sign or red traffic light, and will not proceed through a red traffic light.”
“I will stay alerted, keep two hands on the steering wheel whenever possible, and keep my mind on the road.”
“I will talk safely by using a hands-free wireless telephone while driving if I am of lawful age to do so and refrain from texting while driving.”
“I will plan ahead and leave enough time to arrive at my destination.”
The legislation also requires the commissioner to ensure that drivers have the option of taking the pledge by filling out a standard form made available at MVC offices or by following instructions on the appropriate website.
Nikhil’s Law was sponsored by Assembly Democrats John McKeon, Charles Mainor, Mila Jasey, Benjie Wimberly and Shavonda Sumter.
This is what one of the politician comment on the law-“Having seen so much potential in so many young people as a teacher, a father, and a football coach, knowing that Nikhil’s family and the West Orange community lost a child with great promise in this tragic way just breaks my heart,” said Wimberly (D-Bergen/Passaic). “For the safety of individual drivers as well as entire neighborhoods across New Jersey, it’s critical that we take the time to educate our youth on traffic safety.”
You can Google the two young man name to learn more about their story.
Here are the racist, insensitive and negative comments Deshon's mother have to endure from the citizen referencing to her son's death on Channel 12 news thread.
That was my lil man. I had high hopes for him. He was a good kid with a big heart. I pray none of you ever lose a child. N I also pray I never recognize any of you.
I wish negative people had their own island without wifi.
This is a human being who lost his life in the hand of a reckless bus driver with high road rage and was too ignorant to stop the bus. The mother just wanted to lay flowers where he took his last breath on this earth. Yes, all people cannot bring it to themselves to go to the site where they lost their loved one at but others can. So we as human being should not knock others actions who want to give a memorial at that particular location it are not ending innocent people lives. All honesty it is sad to see any parents have to remember their loved ones with flowers on their anniversary instead of celebrating their love one birthday with flowers like the woman in the News video. This was a good remarkable positive young man who went to college, musician, taken care of his mother who became disabled due high speed police chase in Bloomfield.

Some of you guys are making this more than what it supposed to be and talking really crazy behind the safety of your computer. Some of you people understanding the facts comprehension filters are not there. Learn from the people threads who wrote positive comments with compassion heart. You want to listen to what you want to hear and it could be for number of reason. 1. Hidden racism, racial bias, lack of comprehension skills, angry with the world, miserable and attack others, bitter, psychological problems, lack of compassion, heartless for human life, can be the part of the problem and etc. I can go on for days. The news story was very nicely done.
·
Some of the comments are just baseless-uninformed. I hope you all learn something positive out of these thread and stop wasting your energy on negative comments. Direct your energy in helping others that is going through something like this mother who trying to remember where her son where he lost his last breathe on this earth by a reckless bus driver? You do not know it could be your loved one next. A memorial around the world is traditional like other holidays and events. If you feel that it is not anything wrong with people having a memorial on public property. We walk public property all the time and the real trash is on the street I see you guys are not complaining about that. Do not let your ignorance control you; you control your ignorant behavior. Once again the news report facts were someone removed Deshon’s memorial overnight. The flower did not have time to wither ect.
Dawn you really do not need permission for the town to place flowers, balloons and a candle on the bridge ledge. It is not like they were having a parade. There is no, ordinance for a memorial and placing flowers, candle and to secure balloons on the railing of the bridge. Here is a clip of a news paper article research a situation like Deshon's... "A study of Bloomfield’s ordinances did not show ANY law prohibiting memorials, and only last year a prominent memorial for teens killed in a tragic car accident remained up for over a week in town." How you do not know the mother check the law first before she had the memorial? From what I read the mother is very educational and insightful with law. At times we need to govern our mouth before making assumptions.
The large pictures was there during the memorial and it was against the bridge wall not in the middle of the walkway. Only picture was left at the site was a smaller picture of the victim Deshon who life was taken by Coach USA driver operating NJ Transit 709 was on the glass candle. So it is not a obviously Kim. The statement I made is the facts. The shrine is were everyone will put it at when the lose a love one on public property not at home. You see shrines on highways and on the street. Please be for real and stop having a one track negative mind. That is a damn shame.
Let me clear up some facts with some of you guys ignorant comments. The comment you makes shows the character of some of you guy’s personality. Sometimes ignorant comments does not having anything to do with racism it have to do with a person negative personality. I see some of you guys comprehension level of what the news report is conveying are not good. The memorial was not there for a day or week. It was removed a few hours later it did not have time to wilted or dissipate and the wind cannot be that strong to losing up knotted balloons that were secured on the railing. It was not that windy on the 18th to blow down a glass candle and flowers off the bridge ledge.
The memorial was July 18th and the removal of the memorial was discovered 5:30 am July 19th am by a Bloomfield employee diagonal from the memorial site.. There is no law in Bloomfield state that there is no memorial cannot be there. The Township of Bloomfield, NJ Restricted Activities in Streets states that anything should not blocked the walkway, which it was not. The flowers were on the ledge, the glass candle with Deshon’s picture on it was on the ledge and the balloon was secure to the railing of the bridge. There is no city ordinance. Please do your researches before you make your ignorance comment? If the flowers were blown some of the fragments will still be around. Let’s be for Real! Who in their right mind is going to drive around with sharp object to cut balloons off the railing and a broom/ dust pan to clean up the area where they stole something?
Look at the picture and you will see the balloons are tied onto the railing. Some of you people comments are so ignorant. There is no law are rule states that you cannot leave flower where a person lost their lives in a public area. People do that all the time to show their love, compassion and sympathy of human life. There should not be a memorial or shrine in a person house ignoramus. I am sure the towns do not participate in all memorial vigil. There were teens that lost their lives a few blocks from Deshon’s memorial above Parkway South in Bloomfield with balloons and flowers, which stayed there for two weeks. I saw them when I was driving on the high way going south in Bloomfield. Why was that memorial removed?
Please listen to the facts before drawing you asinine ignorant comments. All we know the town might have removed the memorial if there is a law suit in involved.
What percentage of race of people is making ignore comment? How about if it was a white person memorial taken down would you make those ignore comments?
A deep seeded racist person cannot detect racism comment because they will see it unfavorable to the facts given.
An ignorant foolish person draws their own conclusion and ignores the information presented and their comprehension level to facts or warped.
A wise man listen to people opinions and gather facts so he or she will not make a fool out of him or herself, then they will take the information and gain wisdom, and teach others with a compassion heart.
You seem to be one huge fool with your dozen comments about nothing
Kim, I see you have a lot of build up psychological issues. You need to direct your negative energy into something positive. I am sure you are a beautiful person inside but your ragging comments and profile picture expression shows you are angry or bitter. Should you need counseling I can referral you to a behavior counselor or psychologist. You have pinned up behavior problems that needs to be channel to positive energy.

While some people (Chet) were a little blunt about these shrines being a bad thing, I think we should look at the facts. You see these shrines at many accident sites through out the state. They look nice at first, but after a few weeks or months the loved ones stop coming to maintain it. After months of raiin or snow they look rather shabby, hardly a good memory to their loved one, more of a disgrace to them. Keep in on your property where you can maintain it and always look like the tribute you meant it to be.
Yes, Bill they are a little blunt about these shrines being a bad thing but we must understand what the News reporter conveyed. The memorial was not there for a week, day or months. It was taken over night. The employee saying he witnesses the people over there and the next day early in the morning the memorial was removed. It did not have enough time to for the memorial to be rain on, snow on or being maintained. I am sure if the person lost their lives in front of their home they will have the shrine at that place. On the other hand, the people who lost their lives in another location away from home might be a good suggestion for the loved ones to keep it on their property so they can maintain it and always look like the tribute they meant for it to be. However, I try doubt some people will do that. The question is… why do people go to the site where their love one lost their life at to have a memorial? You seem to be a rational thinker with positive outlook.
·
The last place I would want to visit would be where my love one was killed in an accident or murdered in a crime. There are many places that will put a brick in a walk or wall or a plaque with their name on it. To me, that is a memorial, not some dead flowers and burnt down candles. Of course, his is just my preferance.
Bill Macre The mother did not put down dead flowers they were fresh and candles was not burnt down. The stuff was taken the same day so it did not have time to wither. Now, it you talking about dead flowers in the sense of not connected to its root. I understand what you are talking about some people can go to places where they loved one lost their lives and some people cannot. I guess some people go to this site to raise awareness for what happen to their loved one to seek for witness etc. I read that the mother is trying to get a bench or a ground plaque where the young man lost his life. The ground break is a wonderful suggestion. Thank you for your positive feedback. Keep staying positive!!!
Did anyone think that it might have been vandals? People vandalize cemeteries and churches more and more lately simply because no one is watching, maybe it was local residents or business owners who took it down as a hazard or eyesore.
Connie it cannot be vandals and the reason why I made that statement is because vandals is a person who willfully or ignorantly destroys or ruin something beautiful or valuable. The memorial spot was cleaned up without any flowers particles in the area and the balloons were cut off the bridge railing. A person who vandalizes things willfully marks up with graffiti or ignorantly destroy the property not clean it up. Yes, you are correct cemeteries’ and churches or being vandalize but with graffiti, breaking things and trashing the place. It might are might not be the residents or business owne...See More

I have no clue why any of these comments are mean, rude or evil.
1 merely suggested that maybe there was a city ordinance. Later on, I read that calls to officials identified there were no laws broken, and they had no record of any city department sent out to remove it.
Not everything is malicious and I'm quite sure none were tilted towards race.
Maybe kids took it down or something i doubt it was removed by law enforcement if it was ok to be there
Cecille take a chill pill racist cop hater
It was large pics balloons and candles please it was obviously blocking the sidewalk and njt is paying them at least a million bucks so take your stuff home not on a 3 ft sidewalk over a bridge
·
I'm still trying to find rude or evil comments.
I dont see rude or evil comments either it was on a bridge with a little walkway and they even say it was large pics etc obviously it was in the way

·
Cemeteries are were shrines and memorials should be..stop trashing.
Vanessa you are clearly ignorant with full of hate. A shrine or a memorial does not supposed to be in a commentary. Please educate yourself; then again it might not be any hope for you. I hope you do not have kids because I feel sorry for them to have an adult like you to look up too. No one is trashing a damn thing. If you have any children you are close to need to die of a tragic death. You are trash and what is coming out your mouth is evil hatred trash. A memorial is an object which serves as a focus for memory of something , especially a structure, established to remind people of a per...See More

Noneillahstore.com NOT FULL OF HATE...I don't like seeing deflated balloons and rotten flowers on road sides, along with them tacky fake withering wreathes. Everyone that us human is definitely sorry for a families loss of a loved one, adult or child. I have had family members die on the roads. You don't see my family trashing it with flowers etc...We go to the cemetery..
·
Yes, and I lost my best friend on one of them Bloomfield bridges, again you dont see our shrine there. She was only 15. frown emoticon ...I visit her grave all the time...

Some of you people are devils, the commits that you make seem to be tilted towards racial bias.
How was any comment about race? Race baiter who pays you
Kim Graves Kim your comments on this thread tell people a lot about your personality. The person who made the dozen of comments is not a huge fool. They are just putting out facts like you are being very opinionated. Does that make you a fool? Perhaps it is your comprehension of what is written is above your understanding or reading level. Maybe what they wrote is a true statement about what you are feeling or who you are as a person? It might be your guilty conscious is getting the best of you. Do you think? Keep in mind whatever you dish out in writing you should be able to handle the responds. I know you do not think anybody is going to sit back and allow you to attack them with insults and not going to rebut your statements. Like you told “Cecille take a chill pill”. I think you need to take heed to your statement and do the same.
Yes, I agree Pernell some of these comments that some of these people are making is racial bias. We as human must understand that a racist person do not see anything racist about their comments. A racist person is sightless about reality when it comes to skin colors. Even though this 2014 we still have racism. Some bigoted people are in denial, undercover and bold with their rude prejudice. On the other hand, some people might not be racist they just have an ignorant way of thinking and heartless to human life.
·
Some of your comments make me sick . This woman lost her only child and this is the way she remembers him . I only pray that none of u lose a child so that u don't know what it's like . The rude comments that are being left are only from people who are apart of what's wrong with the world . Your are indeed the problem , not the solution . So much hate and disgust smh
Yes, Myesha you are absolutely right. Some of these comments make me sick too. It tells you how an individual personality is and how they view things in life which can be scary. The people who made ignorant comments they must do not have any kids or have kids and they are not so close to them. They just have a cold heart for human life or just a one track mind with a tunnel vision. Sometime people have to lose a child in a tragic manner in order for them to understand another person pain. As long as their life is golden and happy with their family they do not give a damn about others. You are ...See More

Maybe it may have blown around, possibly into traffic if it wasn't secured well?
Maybe getting permission from the town first was warranted ? Maybe there's an ordinance ? Most people go the cemetery to place flowers. Even cemeteries have rules about what can be placed.
Myesha its on top of a bridge
Kim Graves the two white teens who lost their lives last year on Broughton in Bloomfield was on top of the bridge too over looking South of the Parkway. The balloons and flowers could have blown into the highway and cause major collision. You are talking about millions of drivers driving on the Parkway distracted. I guess they should have taken their stuff home too. There memorial have been there over a week. What is the difference between Afro American young man memorial balloons, flower and candle with his picture on the candle on the bridge ledge vs. the two white teen’s flowers, balloons and candle on the bridge of a highway ledge where the traffic flow is extremely high? Please explain to me since you have the answer for everything.
·
Wow !!! How rude !!! What's wrong with his loved ones leaving a shrine . Disgusting that someone had to mess with it !! May his family find peace !!
Yes, Mary. How rude are these people comments. I too do not see anything wrong with his loved ones leaving flowers, candles and pictures. I agree it is disgusting that someone removed his stuff. You have a compassionate heart for human life. Your comment tells me a lot about your good nature personality. Like Noneillahstore said, there were teens life had ended in Bloomfield township last years and their loved ones recently gave them a memorial a few weeks ago and there memorial have been up over a week on Broughton Avenue in Bloomfield. There where balloons, flowers and balloons.
A study of Bloomfield’s ordinances did not show ANY law prohibiting memorials, and only last year a prominent memorial for teens killed in a tragic car accident remained up for over a week in town.
·
could have just blown away. Doesn't belong there anyway.
·
Thank you I can use all I can get.
But the fact I'd memorials like this do not belong in public spaces especially on a walkway.
Bob the facts is the memorial is where people lost their lives whether it is on the highway, in park, sidewalk etc. It belongs where it was. Who are you to determine where a person should have their loved one memorial? What job position you have to rule where a person has their loved ones memorial. You need to do research before you make a blunt ignorant comment. The memorial was not blocking the walkway. I see your understanding what the news report stated where the memorial was, he also made a gesture with his hand telling people where the objects were located. I guess he did not tape into y...See More
