Moth Meaning and Death/ Symbolic Meaning of the Moth

Moth Meaning and Death

On February 2013 I received a visit by a moth. The moth linger in my apart until May. On Friday July 26, 2013 I left my apartment 4:00 pm. When I came back home to my apartment at 6:30pm my home was filled with moths, especially in my kitchen. An associate of mines killed all l the moths that was visible in my kitchen.  On Sunday July 28, 2013 around 1:02am my kitchen was filled with moths again.

I was so concern wondering what it means. I Google, What does it means when your home is filled with moths? Down below is my founding the meaning of moths.

Moth Meaning and Death

I decided to write this story about the moth because I may not be alone in my analysis but I know that if I post this information, maybe someone will come forward with a similar story.

Today: 8/9/2010

This past June, my house started getting visited by moths. Something that had never happened in the last 6 years we have lived there. Nothing special has been done to the house, so there are no cracks that I know of (one of the things that attract moths).

However, my mother who had cancer since 2005 started declining in health and having many medical problems was going through a procedure (minor surgery for a port a cath).

By the end of June my mother was unable to eat foods anymore and was hospitalized for 15 days into mid July. Still she could not eat. A week after that I had a PICC line placed for her to receive nutrients into her body as she had a intestinal obstruction and the cancer had gotten very aggressive so all the doctors were telling me that an operation or additional chemotherapy was not possible.

The moths continued to increase in visits and in numbers throughout my home. My daughter began catching them and releasing them outside. I killed a few here and there but after a while started releasing them outside as well.

My mother passed away 2 days ago and I am wondering if this was a symbol letting me know that she would be passing.

Or perhaps since my mother loved butterflies and the moth is a cousin of the butterfly, it is her way of letting me know she made it well to the other side.

My mother and I are very close and I'm looking for answers. My neighbor next door is also losing her mother to cancer and stated she had not seen any moths in her home. Perhaps I'm reading too much into this and I just have a moth infestation problem, otherwise there may be some symbolism behind it all.

I welcome any comments or stories by writing back to me at: (email removed for security and privacy reasons. If you wish to respond to this post - please use the comment feature below).

Thank you in advance to those who decide to write.

Have a blessed day!

Symbolic Meaning of the Moth

Moth Meaning - Moth Symbolism
I’ve been asked about the symbolic meaning of the moth.
It took me a few days to really jive with this amazing creature, but once allowed access; I was given some incredible insights.  These (intense) thoughts can be seen here on my symbolic meaning of moth page. Here are some other observations:
Moths are nocturnal, and much of their symbolism deals with:
·                                 Intuition
·                                 Psychic perception
·                                 Heightened awareness
Indeed, many people who are spiritual practitioners (particularly of an esoteric ilk) attract the moth as their animal totems.
As if being a night-dweller weren’t enough, the moths are babes of the moon.  They follow the mother moon as a source of light, and this connects them with some powerful moon associations such as:
·                                 Knowledge of the Otherworld
·                                 Second sight
·                                 Influence
·                                 Prophesy
·                                 Clarity
However, as I mentioned in my in-depth page on moth symbolism here, those of us who fly high with the moth must be mindful to not be too carried away by her influence.  Moon creatures such as moths ask us to have a firm foundation before lunar journeying.
The moth expresses some tender vulnerability, which I’ve mentioned here. We may take this as a message to be open to our heightened spiritual experiences yet allow for adjustment and protection too.
Indeed, we find this theme of protection in the moth’s chrysalis.  Unlike her cousin, the butterfly (with whom the moth shares many symbolic attributes), the moth’s cocoon is like an internalized womb with a hard casing, allowing more protection against the elements.  (The butterfly has an externalized womb, more exposed and subjective to the environment).
This may be analogous of garnering protection for ourselves in our spiritual practices.  The moth reminds us to have a willing heart in our spiritual growth, but realize the heart is a treasure to be taken care of.  Part of this caretaking involves nurturing and protection during times of development.
I’ve written more about the moth’s message of balance, grounding and protection (particularly in terms of its attraction to light and flames) here.
As a dream symbol, the moth may be interpreted as a message to listen to our inner voice.  Dreaming of the moth may also indicate we are on the path to attracting love into our lives (see more about the moth and love symbolism here).
Another dream animal aspect of the moth deals with influence.  Here, our dreaming mind may ask our waking mind what is it that rules our attention, or what are we allowing to overly influence us in our daily lives?
In superstition: A white moth is said to embody the soul of a loved one.  White being the symbolic color of purity of the soul, and the embodiment comes from an ancient idea that the night (realm of the moth) is a dwelling place for souls (in terms of the Underworld or Otherworld).
Another superstition connected to the moth is that when one is seen, an important letter or message will arrive (I have yet to find an origin for this one – if you know where this folk-myth came from, feel free to comment).
But don’t rely on superstition to receive an important message.  Take some time to connect with the moth…she may be a bit elusive at first, but she’s worth the persistence for the wisdom she imparts.

  2. I had a vision of the moth last night. It taught me a lesson about death. I was doing some spirit journeying, and after the moth revealed it's message to me, I was seized with insight and prophecy. Then I took the moth to the light, because it was time for it to die. That is the only way to learn the lesson about death, to embrace it. I stayed with it while it became one with the light. Moths become moonlight when they die. It was cloudy last night. I hope it finds it's way back to the moon.

  4. I decided to look up but seeing a white moth means because we were going to have an abortion my girlfriend and I she decided to pray to my mother instead of God for guidance and she did so in broad daylight a white moth landed on her and if it symbolizes a loved one then that was my mother she did not tell me about this incident until we saw 3 that night under our light and then I saw two turtle doves the next day coincidence I think not it was my mother telling us to keep the baby and then I wanted to name hurt Harlem and that means the chosen one but I did not find this out to look the name up because my daughter's name is Brooklyn Brooklyn and Harlem I thought that would be cute so if the Superstition is real my mother came to her as a white moth

    1. I know in some country there are different meanings for moth. The means of moth an the color of the moth seems to have a different meanings but similarities dealing with the supernatural. I moved in a new apartment after my only child/son was killed by Wilson Romaine Coach USA bus driver operating NJ Transit when he was speeding and jumped the curb when my son stood. In my new apartment my whole apartment was saturated with tan moths. From my understanding according to my research it stated that I had a strong spiritual connection to the spiritual world. My son came to me in my dreaming telling me that the bus driver looked in his eyes and still continue to speed up the bus to end my son's life instead of stopping the bus. When the law got specialist to survey the area it shows what my son told me what happen was true. I also started having other spiritual things happen to me. like a friend of mines mother came to me while I was in his house and told me she die in the house among other detail stuff.

    2. Two large white moths within seconds at a time flew into my car hood as I drove on the highway a few days ago. I feel bothered about it. I wonder what it means? Are two people going to die in my family?

    3. Most commonly, moths are symbolic of death and the mysteries of the afterlife. Spiritually, death represents change, and the ending of something so that something else can begin. In many Native American cultures, they considered moths to be messengers from the spirit world, especially from those that have passed on. Did two people die in you family since you message?

    1. WOW...I am sorry about you're loss. Based on my research, a black moth can be a good omen. However, a black moth in your father's room can translate to the butterfly of death.
